MOUNT GAMBIER SA TOUR  -  Departing from Victoria

DAY 1:  Begin your journey to Mt. Gambier SA.

Arriving at Motel where you will be enjoying your evening meal and stay for the next 5 nights.

DAY 2:

First up you will make a visit to the Lady Nelson Tourist Information Centre where you will then be joined on the coach by a local guide who will guide you in exploring this lovely city including the Umpherston Cave - a sinkhole that has been landscaped with terraced gardens close to the city centre.  It is an impressive garden with palm trees reaching to the sky and plants hanging over the edges of the sinkhole.

Next stop is a visit to the Blue Lake - here you will have a guided tour of the historic pumping station.  The water supply for Mt. Gambier comes from the Blue Lake.  One of the lakes within the 3 craters of the volcano.  Between the months of November and April, and almost overnight, the steely grey waters of the lake changes to a brilliant blue.

Lunch stop and a short wander around town before you head off to visit the Riddoch Arts & Cultural Centre for a guided tour and to watch the most interesting film on the volcano's.

Back to the Motel for some relaxation prior to your Dinner.

DAY 3:

This morning you will head North out of Mt. Gambier making your way onto Penola.  The town was established in the 1850's, visiting the Saint Mary MacKillop Penola Centre which also brings together other buildings on the site - the School House, the Church, Shrine and Old Convent.  Adjacent to the Interpretative Centre is Petticoat Lane, this heritage site portrays the pioneer living standards of the 1890's.

Then you continue your journey onto the Wonambi Fossil Centre located within the Naracoorte Caves National Park.  Here you step back in time and discover what Naracoorte was like over 200,000 years ago.  The Centre contains fossil displays and a walk through diorama with life sized models of extinct animals in their ancient habitats.  Then onto the guided tour of the Alexander Cave followed by a light lunch in the visitor centre cafe.

Heading back towards Mt. Gambier after lunch stopping in a Coonawarra you will visit the well known Wynns Coonawarra Estate (winery).  Enjoy the tour with some wine tastings.

Back to the Motel in Mt. Gambier in time for your evening Dinner.


DAY 4:DAY

Today you make your way to Millicent and enjoy a collection of murals representing the diverse history of the town along George Street, visiting the Millicent National Trust Museum with its historical and maritime displays, restored horse drawn vehicles, implements and machinery.

Continuing along the way onto Robe a popular seaside resort town where you will pick up your local guide who will show you around this beautiful hamlet.

Lunch is next - you can enjoy some lunch while wandering around the township.

After lunch you make your way back to Beachport, which is situated on a rugged stretch of coastline with some wonderful views of the coast.  Stopping in to visit the Old Woolgrain Store which now houses an interesting Museum, before continuing on back to Mt. Gambier to your Motel and for Dinner.

DAY 5:

This morning you head off in a different direction making your way onto Portland.

Arriving in Portland the first stop is at the Information Centre where you can enjoy having a look through here whilst having a cuppa prior to climbing aboard the Portland Cable Tram for a commentary tour around Portland.

Next is some free time for lunch and a wander around the town.

After lunch travel onto Nelson for an afternoon tea cruise on the Glenelg River on the Nelson Endeavour.  Very relaxing on the river.

Then make your way back to Mt. Gambier and your Motel for your evening meal.

DAY 6:

After breakfast board coach and make your way back home with a stop for lunch and maybe afternoon tea along the way.
